How It Works: Engine & Transmission
The 2017 QX60 AWD features a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Think of the engine like an athlete's lungs; the bigger the lungs (or displacement of 3.5 liters) the more air it takes in allowing it to generate a hearty 295 horsepower. It uses a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Unlike a standard transmission that has a few fixed steps (gears) to transfer power to the wheels a CVT uses a system of pulleys and a belt to constantly change the gear ratio smoothly. This helps the engine stay in its "sweet spot" for either power or fuel efficiency meaning you won't feel traditional shifting jerks when you accelerate.
